Java Rhumba is a small Artisan coffee roasting business based in Oakland, California owned and operated by myself, S.E.Willis.


I spent years seeking the perfect cup of coffee, or shot of espresso, while working as a professional musician (click on "About Us" to go my music website), and eventually decided that the bean and the roast were more important than the brewing method.  Drip, French Press, vacuum pot, Moka pot, cold-brewed, espresso, whatever your choice, your cup of coffee will never be better than the bean you use, and the freshness and roast of that bean.

So, my idea is to provide fresh roasted coffee, the best I can find of all available origins, to you.

All beans are roasted to order and all bags of coffee are signed and marked with the date with of roast, so you know exactly what you're getting.

I roast in a small shop space using a 5 kilo Has-Garanti roaster, made in Turkey. I keep a stock of high quality coffees on hand, including Costa Rican, Panamanian, Sumatran, Ethiopian, Indian and Mexican.  Click on the Shop button for the full catalog. I also have a good supply of decaf beans.
